Originally written in Seattle, October of 1993 while contemplating an experience in Tenants Harbor, Maine in May 1993. (If you walk on frost, it will turn into ice, eh?) This version recorded in Seattle, sometime in 2008, long after this experience had been oft-discussed, dissected and depicted in art and song.
lyrics
Waiting for the coins to fall
Six broken line—receptivity
Which is fine if you’re honest, correct or great
Keep watching and turn around
If you walk on frost it will turn into ice
I’m just waiting for the coins to fall
I saw
The birth of venus
I saw
There was a lot between us
And sometimes
The lines end up broken
Poor child
Baby when will you learn
I wanted to get this all down
I’m over here
The dark and swirling sky
I’m over here
I’m standing in someone’s back yard
The wind is howling and the trees are still
I’m just waiting for the coins to fall
